How to get the most out of your freelancing gig
After six years of freelancing and bidding on hundreds of projects, the thing that turned one-off gigs into a long-term client was spotting security holes — and how I raised them.

I have been doing freelancing for the last 6 years. And I was always to the goal of finishing my assigned task to get paid. I did want to get long-term clients but in most cases, the client wouldn’t hire regularly as they were not agencies.
I had to place bids on a regular basis to keep my finance coming. It also happened I had bid on 100+ projects and only 8 clients got back to me and only one hired me. I know, yeah, very frustrating.
But I am always looking for security bug holes in web applications. Uffs, sorry I did not mention earlier that I am a freelance web developer.
Last April (2020), I got an invitation from a client to convert his CMS from PHP 5.7 to version PHP 7.4. Later he invited me to work on another project. To my wonder, I found that the previous developer kept many security loopholes in the system. I immediately notified the client and he was also passionate about security. We patched the issues and from then we are working together till now (January 2022).
Tip: Try to praise your client’s previous work along with constructive criticism if something needs to be upgraded.
